this is the program reg2.c running on the GNOME desktop
clicking on an item category under departments
brings up a selection menu on the left
selections have defaults (pre-clicked) and carry prices
you can dismiss the selection menu by clicking "close" or the original dept button.
the sales slip on the right is updated as you go

menu selections are kept in flat files in a structure as shown below:

here is one of the sub-directories: cooked

here is the contents of "Hamburger"

prices are all in pennies. right hand abbreviations are for optional kitchen terminal.
